Start European Open Science Cloud project

In January 2017 the Horizon 2020  European Open Science Cloud project starts with a pilot. With EOSC it is easier for researchers to share and to combine data, also across disciplinary boundaries.

Over the next five years the EU will invest two billion euros to connect the fragmented European research infrastructures and realize a European Open Science Cloud. Part of this project is also that it will be mandatory for researchers to make data from EU-funded research available under the FAIR principles: data must be findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable. EOSC is part of the overall European Cloud Initiative, where also business, industry and public facilities have to connect via the cloud. The goal of the two-year pilot is the start of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) initiative.

In the Netherlands, various institutions are involved in the EOSCpilot. The Academy/NWO institute Data Archiving and Networked Services (DANS) is one of the 33 European partners and will particularly contribute to the development of quality standards and policies in the field of Open Science, open science monitoring, data skills and training, and communication with research communities in the humanities and social sciences.
